  1. Stetson University Remembers… Dr. H. Douglas Lee

  2. I will miss Doug's wisdom and his enlightened world view, his passion for servant leadership and his fierce commitment to social justice. Stetson University has been greatly blessed by having this giant at her helm for so many years. Together, with Margaret at his side, Doug transformed every person and institution he touched. I am humbled to follow in his path. ~Wendy Libby

  3. When I was torn between attending a small college in Deland and the powerhouse University of Florida (both of which I was accepted to) in 1989 I decided to visit both schools. I spent a day at Stetson walking around the campus and began an unassuming conversation with Dr. Lee who I assumed was merely a Professor. We spoke of sports and the Political Science department. He then recommended where in town my mom and me should eat that evening. The next day I was told that Dr Lee was the President of the University. My mind was made up quicker than if Steve Spurrier had asked me to enroll at UF. I have told this story a hundred times, I hoped to tell Dr. Lee one day. I assume Our Lord Jesus Christ started a new school in heaven and needed the finest to lead it. He got it. My family's thoughts are with the Lee and my Stetson family. ~Joe Crowley

  4. Doug Lee was a visionary, a leader and a loyal friend. I had the privilege of working with him developing Municipal Government programs in partnership with the Union of Ibero-American Municipalists (UIM); I will always remember his enthusiasm and wisdom with Margaret by his side upholding his commitment to municipal development and interest in furthering Stetson presence in the international community. The UIM mourns his loss; the organization lost a partner, a committed leader to the municipal causes and a true friend. It is with deepest sadness that I present our heart felt condolences to Margaret and their children. ~Lily Guzman

  5. Men strive their entire lives in the hopes that upon it's completion, they will have made an impact that will be remembered for generations beyond. Dr. Lee not only had that impact on the institution that was his home for so many years, but on the tens of thousands of students whom he served in the past, present, and future. Rest easy, Dr. Lee. Thank God that such men live. ~Ryan J. Lynch

  6. I, like everyone in our community, am facing today with such sadness but when I think of Dr. Lee all I can do is see that smile and remember how much I enjoyed making him laugh...and he loved to laugh. He loved this school, this community, his family and his dear sweet Margaret. Please know we will be here for you and you are in our prayers. ~Most Sincerely, Kerry Nordman

  7. I was a student at Stetson when Dr. Pope Duncon retired. The school needed a strong leader and fundraiser to further build upon the great legacy that Dr. Duncan and others had preserved throughout the school's history. That Dr. Lee was the right person to serve in this capacity is beyond question. His work made me even more proud to be a graduate of of Stetson University. ~William M. Nieporte, Sr.

  8. At the time Doug Lee interviewed to be president at Stetson, I was president at William Jewell College and was "the other finalist" for Stetson's presidency. At the time, and since, I have known that Stetson made the right choice, that in God's providence Doug was "right" for Stetson and Stetson "right" for Doug. He was a great soul, a great mind, a great man, a great friend. Our care goes out to Margaret and the family. As we feel their loss, and ours, we also celebrate a man who did more with his lifetime than others would achieve in ten lifetimes; and we thank God for the life and work of H. Douglas Lee. ~Dr. Gordon Kingsley Principal of Harlaxton College, England

  9. It is with great sadness I hear of Doug Lees passing. He was a great leader and truly will be missed. I remember him attending many baseball games, cheering from the left field line with the students. I always knew I could talk to him and that meant more than he ever knew. He was a great role model for all students and many of his decisions will help students for years to come. ~Ernie Yaroshuk

  10. Gone but not forgotten… Dr. H. Douglas Lee March 15, 1943 – August 25, 2009
