The history of Smederevo Smederevo has a continuity since the early ages, throughout ancient and medieval centuries, until today, while the best proof is the rich cultural heritage of Smederevo area, which can be seen in its many local sites placed around and in the city. Special significance was given to Smederevo in the early 15th century, while it was ruled by Despot Djuradj Brankovic, when the town of Smederevo has become the capital of medieval Serbian kingdom and the capital of religious and urban life. Origins of the Smederevo Fortress are coming from that period, King’s capitol city, on the right side of Danube (built between 1428 and 1439), which was spreading across 11ha of land, with 25 massive towers which were connected with walls, and which represent the biggest lowland fortress in Europe. After the City was overtaken by the Ottoman Empire, Smederevo kept its regional significance, until 1521. During the 16th and 17th century the City has developed into a large oriental village, with mosques, caravanserais and developed bazaars. While it was ruled by the Austrians it was the center of the district. In the rebuilt state of Serbia, Smederevo has played a significant part as the seat of the Serbian Soviet between 1805 and 1807, while it was also a developed merchant center and the capitol of Smederevo district. The Advantages of Investing In free trading zones, it is permited to conduct all production activities, as well as service providing To import goods and construct objects in the customs free trading zone there are no customs costs, nor other import taxes for bussineses under zones regime, and it can provide savings in business. VAT is not charged for goods and providing tranport and other services in the Customs Free Zone. The goods that are being imported or export from the zone free are treated as customs goods. Inspection of goods in the Free Zone is conducted by the Customs Department, and the user is obliged to provide free access to the Customs Offier, and has to keep prescribed records.   36. Current events Agricultural Development Fund has been established in 1996. The funds are used for subsidies and loans for agriculture The program of giving agricultural land for lease. Out of 2266ha 44a and 70m2 of agricultural land that is owned by the state of Serbia, in 2011 alone, 406ha 93a 25m2 had been issued for lease. We are planning to lease another707ha 29a 90m2, while 52ha 96a 53m2is going to be made available for use. Total surface of 52ha 96a 53m2 is not covered by leasing. We are undertaking certain activities so that we could apply the instruments for more than one form of processing agricultural products according to the following programs, and based on the potential of Smederevo.
