  5. Presentation Scope • The purpose of this ESD presentation is to present an overview of ESD practices and procedures as adopted by Pioneer Electronics, USA. It is understood that a comprehensive program needs to be undertaken for the benefit of a full understanding. A good starting point is to read the manual Complete ESD Method For Service shown in this presentation.

  6. 5ESD Concept • Because of the complementary nature of the 5S and ESD concepts, PSE has combined them to provide a single unifying theme: 5ESD. This simple moniker illustrates the Pioneer commitment to implement 5S and ESD procedures throughout all its facilities. 5ESD

  7. ESD Control Hierarchy • ESD Control personnel must be assigned, identified and posted in an organization chart easily viewable by all personnel. This satisfies the criteria set forth in the Pioneer ESD Manual as well as the standard of the 5S Visual Workplace. • We should have a new understanding of 5S activities and carry them out. • 5S activities are necessary for the ESD control program.

  10. Basic Equipment and Tools Using ESD standards, the static potential of any person in the ESD safety zone is calculated using the Human Body Model (HBM). For maximum effectiveness of static minimization, a layered approach is best. This means using more than one method in tandem. The following pages contain the recognized standards for the Human Body, Facility, Control Items, and a selection of Useful Testing Devices.
