Why is data important? • Regulator’s role… Charities you can trust and that provide public benefit • Open data – accountability and transparency • Charities – well run, demonstrate impact, assets publicly accounted for • Public – access to information, to generate trust and confidence… • Trust and confidence – important for donations, support and to enable essential role in society (quite often as service provider)

Publishing annual reports and accounts • Links to some charity accounts available now Scottish Charity Register • Scottish Charity Register – most popular part of our webiste, over 100,000 searches per month • Improved search facility – keywords, date registered, purposes, beneficiaries, activities, legal form etc • Charity Register download, updated daily, free of charge, lists every charity, csv format • Increased use of charity data – around 5,000 downloads so far (previously 60-70 re-use of public sector information requests per year)
