  2. Barry Forrester: Teaching Assistant & Research Student in Outdoor Education. • Teach Geography modules, kayaking, ML, winter mountaineering & orienteering. • Research: PhD student : Anthropogenic induced environmental impacts in the Cairngorms. • ML, WML, SPA, BCU L3 (Inland), BCU L4 (Sea).

  3. Context of Research : Winter recreational activity is very much on the increase. • Instructor training and fast track schemes. • Freelance instruction and private guiding. • Increasing independent participation. • Milder winters. (Source: BMC 1988 p15).

  4. Milestones so far. • Got the job. • Successful proposal. • Conference. • Pilot study. • First field research season completed.

Study 2 – Changing climate. • Raising SRL; - changing the face of winter recreation – can the cloak of winter be a filter. • Benitson (2003) states: “Changing climates may alter the seasonal patterns of tourism and thus the environmental pressures associated with different forms of tourism.” (Benitson M; 2003, p8).
