  1. Building Better by Using Scrap Metal

  2. Construction and Infrastructure In the construction industry, scrap iron and aluminium are extensively used in a broad range of infrastructural projects, such as building roads and bridges. Scrap metal provides a host of different building materials, widening the scope of waste metal for building purposes. Scrap steel has by far the most versatile usage. Similarly, in commercial construction projects, large shipping containers are used for building residential areas and office complexes. In the construction of buildings and bridges, scrap metal is processed to make steel rods, which are used to reinforce concrete.

  3. Sustainability and Constructional Reusability Scrap metal, as a result of building demolition, can be recycled and reused for further building projects. One of the most important metals here is steel. Steel is made mostly of two ingredients that are recycled steel and iron. All steel waste can be collected and sold to recycling facilities, in construction and demolition sites. Unlike some metals, steel can be recycled with ease, without the need to sort it according to size and color. Moreover, steel is the most recycled metal; it can be recycled for an indefinite amount of time without compromising strength and durability, hence even as steel is recycled, it does not lose its strength.

  4. Scrap Steel as Construction Material Known for its durability, steel is one of the most widely used construction materials, uniquely suited to handle the rigors of wear and tear in outdoor environments. Due to its versatility and excellent mechanical properties, structures made from recycled steel last for several years with little maintenance, making scrap steel an ideal option for different construction projects. Moreover, a high loading capacity is provided by recycled scrap steel, while it also allows higher flexibility and ductility. This enables steel structures to withstand natural disasters. Hence, steel can bend without cracking and can also handle great force without sudden failure, providing more time to react during emergencies.

  5. Steel scrap concrete and scrap fibers Scrap metal, especially steel, can be used in the innovative construction industry in the manufacture of scrap steel concrete, which contains fibrous materials that are uniformly distributed and casually oriented. Concrete reinforced by steel scrap fiber shows an excellent performance in compression and tension while no significant effects can be observed in flexure. Thus, using a minor amount of scrap steel fiber, as an additive to concrete to enhance its properties is an innovative way to use it as a substitute for factory-made steel fiber. The steel scrap waste material which is obtainable from the lathe can be used as steel fiber for pavement construction. Besides, to get sustainable development, lathe scrap with concrete is likely to be used.
