  2. “A Curriculum for Excellence” in Westhill Academy • Improved learning and teaching. • Further work with partners to enhance learning and make it “real and relevant.” • Better motivation and engagement of pupils. • More effective inter-disciplinary learning. • Structural changes from 2/2/2 to 3/3 and introduction of the revised qualifications. • Improved achievement and attainment.

  3. S1- 3 Broad General Education • English/Maths – 2.5 periods S1 – S3. • Science – 2 periods S1/2 - Rota S3. • Social Subjects 2 periods S1/2 - Rota S3. • Modern Languages – 2 periods S1- S3. Tasters in S3. • Art, Design and Technology – Linked S1/2 – Discrete S3. • Drama/Music– Linked S1/2 – Discrete S3.

  4. S1 – S3 BGE Continued. • Home Economics – 1 period S1/2. • Computing/Business Education – 1 period S1 and S3. • PE – 1 period S1, 2 periods S2/3. • Personal and Social Education – 1 period S1 – S3. • Interdisciplinary Short Courses 2 periods in S2.

S3 – Principles of Course Design • Courses should…… • Be based on the Level 3/4 Outcomes and Experiences. • Have contexts/content selected to enhance the BGE and prepare for the Senior Phase. • Include assessment that will allow initial recommendations for S4 courses at Access 3, National 4 or 5. • Be efficient on staffing to support the Senior Phase.

  7. S4 – S6 The Senior Phase from 2013/14. • S4 – 6 subjects English and Maths plus 4 others at A3, N4, N5. • S5 – 5 subjects at A3, N4, N5, H. • S6 – Minimum 4 subjects at A3, N4, N5, H, AH.
