Pechenga district. • Conclusions: • The majority of respondents in Pechenga district represents small businesses with less then 10 employees. • Most of the companies work in the field of tourism, retail trade and service. • Number of companies having business relations with Norwegians is growing. • The majority of business contacts are related to private clients (B2C), though 27% of the respondents have regular B2B relations. • The most promising areas for cooperation are seen as tourism and service.

Pechenga district. • Conclusions: • The new visa-free regime for border areas is seen as a positive phenomenon by a great part of business community. • Respondents believe that simplified customs rules and procedures and visa routines for Norwegian citizens will be a good assistance for development of economic cooperation over border • Among the main challenges for more effective business cooperation are named lack of information about possible partners, lack of experience and differences in mentality.

Sør-Varanger • Conclusions: • A considerable part of respondents have business relations with Russian companies • The attitude to visa-free regime is positive with a positive dynamics • The main concern for the Norwegian companies, willing to develop business contacts in Russia is lack of information about possible partners, unclear or unpredictable customs regulations • Norwegian companies want easier visa procedures, simpler workforce regulation on Norwegian side and more effective customs. • The most promising areas for cooperation are seen as tourism, transport, trade and service.

General conclusions: • Business in Pechenga seems to be more oriented towards international B2C relations • Companies in Sør-Varanger have a labor force issue in focus • Nonetheless there are several fields of cooperation that seem to be common for both communities, first of all tourism and services • Businessmen from both municipalities want to attract attention to the visa issues. They would like to simplify visa routines from both sides • Visa-free regime for border area is highly appreciated on both sides of the border • Businessmen from both Pechenga and Sør-Varangerbelieve that customs rules must be more predictable, procedures more simple and there should be less limitations, while the customs should be more effective • Businesses from both sides experience lack of information about each other
