  3. Works Cited Page: Never Forget Rule #2 ALWAYS alphabetize your sources

  4. Works Cited Page: Never Forget Rule #3 • SPACING MATTERS • Always double-space the entire page • Do not add extra spaces between entries • Do not subtract spaces in between the first and second lines of entries • Do not add extra spaces after the title

  7. Parenthetical References • Finish the works cited page before you write the paper – then the references have a fighting chance of being right.

Parenthetical References • Janie loved the conversation and sometimes she thought up good stories about the mule • Direct quote • “Janie loved the conversation and sometimes she thought up good stories about the mule” • Quotation marks immediately before and after the quote • “Janie loved the conversation and sometimes she thought up good stories about the mule”(Hurston 53) • Reference includes first word(s) of works cited entry • Note there is NOT a comma between the name and the page number • “Janie loved the conversation and sometimes she thought up good stories about the mule”(Hurston 53). • Period (or question mark or exclamation point) goes at the end • NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER put it before the reference
