The cave is said to have a treasureburied inside it. The old man warns them that a terrible dragon may still protect it. Sean thinks that’s silly and laughs. After several days hiking, they arrived at the cave and enter it. Inside it was dark and cool. Sean and Shi walked farther inside and found a huge box full of jewellery. But suddenly they heard a strange noise. Without waiting to see what it was, they ran down the hill, never looking back.

  5. About the author Guy de Maupassantwas a well-known French novelist and short- story writer “The diamond necklace” was his best short story. He had a fine use of irony(讽刺).

  6. About the author: When he was young, he had a great interest in literature.

  7. Maupassant suffered a great deal from illness in his life. Yet he struggled to continue writing with tremendous(极大的,巨大的,不平常的)will power. He had but a short life, and died at the age of 43 ( on July 6, 1893 ).
