  1. The Physical Geography 2-4 How Climate Affects Vegetation

  2. Vocabulary Vegetation – plants that grow in a region Tundra – area of cold climate and low lying vegetation Canopy – the layer formed by the uppermost branches of the rainforest Savanna – a parklike combination of grasslands and scattered trees Desert Scrub – desert vegetation that needs little water Deciduous Trees- trees that lose their leaves seasonally Coniferous Trees – trees that produce cones to carry seeds

  3. Climate and Vegetation What are Vegetation IAN pg the types of 5 types climate? Tropical, dry, temperate marine, temperate continental, and polar Plants require different amounts or water and sunlight and different temps to survive

  4. Climate and Vegetation Dry – Very hot summer (arid/semiarid) Mild winter; little rain Little or NO vegetation Semiarid is better than arid Temperate Marine – Middle latitudes near coast Three types – Mediterranean, marine west coast, humid subtropical Plenty of rain = marine west coast humid subtropical Humid subtropical = summer rain

  5. Climate and Vegetation Mediterranean climates = less rain Rain in winter All climates have mild winter Mediterranean and Humid subtropical = hot summer Heavy rainfall supports forests in marine west coast and humid subtropical Mediterranean has own vegetation

  6. Earth’s Vegetation Regions • Make your own Cornell notes!!
