  1. Film Distribution

  2. What does a film distributer do? • A film distributer acts as a final agent between a film production company and a film exhibitor, often securing placement of the producers film on the exhibitors screen • It is either an individual company, a subsidiary company or an individual that acts as a film distributer • The distributer secures a written contract • The contract states the total ticket sales to be paid to the distributer • The distributer is responsible for the promotion of the film and advertising resources • They are also in charge of subtitling if it is a foreign film to ensure it is appropriate for all viewers

  3. Verve pictures • We decided to join with verve pictures because we’re independent film makers and we where on a low budget which makes us limited to the distributers we could deal with. Verve pictures are a successful UK film distribution company and have a proven track record of effective first time film making by having over 75% of their films from first time film makers. • An example of one of their successful distributions is “Bullet Boy” which made £450,000 in the first six months

  4. Bullet Boy • “Bullet Boy” was a low budget independent film based around gang culture in inner city London. In hackney, where the film is set, and local people contributed to the film. • Giving that our film included references to gang culture and ran on a low budget we thought it ideal to work with verve pictures as they have experience with this type of film and have proof to be successful. • Verve pictures advertised Bullet Boy in daily and national newspapers, tabloids and radio stations. • We feel Verve pictures will be a good company to distribute our film because of its track record with low budget independent films.

  5. How have we shown Verve pictures Distributed our film • We have shown that Verve pictures have distributed our film product by using their logo at the start of our opening sequence. We wanted to present to the audience straight away what film distribution company we worked with which is why we put in at the beginning and so it doesn’t distract from the story further in.
