  1. KJM-MENA 4010 – module 13 Helmer Fjellvåg, SMN/KI David Wragg, SMN/KI Wojciech Slawinski, SMN/KI Practical powder X-ray diffraction Lectures Practical exercises Spring 2014

  2. Progress plan Lectures(Helmer Fjellvåg) Monday, March 10th, room Ø124 ???? Practical exercises (David Wragg + Wojciech Slawinski ) in week 11 (March 11th – 14th). • Sample preparation • Phase identification • Indexing of diffraction patterns • Quantitative analysis You will be devided into 3 GROUPS In order to pass, a written report must be handed in and accepted The report should be sent by email to david.wragg@smn.uio.no Deadline for report: March 31st

  3. Time schedule – groups and training 10.3. Lectures: Ø124; 0915-1200 Three groups: 1 2 3

  4. Objectives for the module/training • understanding of fundamental principles • insight in the use of powder diffraction for phase analysis (and simple crystal structure evaluations) • practical training with equipment and software • achieved sufficient knowledge to use powder diffraction as a tool for certain analyses of own samples
