  1. Beret Study Buddy: Vocabulary • Beret Study Buddy: Vocabulary is a vocabulary program that can be used in your classroom to motivate students to practice and learn content vocabulary words. • This program keeps track of word lists and uses the words in these lists for games.

The “All Words” Building • This is the building you tap into to create and manage your lists of words. • You can tap into: • All words • This shows all the words in your word list. • New • This will let you add a new word to your list. • Copy • This will let you copy words from one list to another list. • Add a new list • This lets you create a new list.

  6. The “Quiz” Building • This building lets you take a matching quiz. • You will read the given definition and then tap on the correct answer choice. • Tap on the forward arrow for the next definition.

  8. The “Guess” Game • This is a game in which you have to guess the letters for the word that matches the definition. • Guess all the right letters before Herbert runs out of suitcases.

The “Word Find” Game • Word Find is a word search game in which the students have to find the words hidden in the letters on the screen. • When you locate a word, tap on the beginning letter and the ending letter to select it. • Tap on the pop-up screen in the upper right-hand corner and a list will appear to show you a list of all the words in the word list.

The “Tic-Tac-Toe” Game • To play this tic-tac-toe game, you have to answer a question correctly to earn the square. • You have 3 choices to play tic-tac-toe • You and a friend can take turns using one handheld. • You can play against the handheld. • You can play against another handheld using infrared.

  14. Help! • The help tutorial bubble brings you to a screen that lists a table of contents. • Tap on a word in the table of contents. The help tutorial will link you to a step by step process in order to help you answer your questions about the program.

Stats • This bubble will take you to a screen that will keep track of the last 10 times you ran Study Buddy. • The Stats page keeps track of the number of problems correct and the number of problems attempted. • This screen is valuable for the teacher in evaluating how the students performed.

  18. Setup • The setup bubble brings you to a screen that lets the teacher determine aspects of the game, such as; • Time allowed to answer questions • Volume • Difficulty level for tic-tac-toe • Number of quiz questions

  20. Let’s Practice • Now that you have seen an overview of how the Study Buddy Vocabulary program works, lets create a word list so we can play each of the three games.

  21. How to Create a List • To add a new word list: • Tap on “Add New List” on the “All words” screen • Enter a name for the list • Tap on the “OK” button • Now you can start entering in your new words and definitions. • Go ahead and enter 7 words and definitions.

  22. TIME FOR FUN • Now that you have a word list created, go ahead and play the game of your choice. • Play each game for approximately 7 min. • I’ll let you know when to switch games. • When all three games have been played, we will go to the statistics and evaluate how you did.
