  1. CASIMIR WP 7 Integration of Biological collections and material resources into the data network • Objectives • To establish which types of biological material and resources might be usefully linked – for example mice, frozen sperm and embryos, cell lines, clones, eg. BACS, libraries, DNA microarrays. • To establish how these might be described and integrated into the data network. • To establish if the Community would perceive value in resource integration: is there value in a “one stop shop”? • To examine business models developed by existing Resource centers and assess their application to databases.

  2. CASIMIR WP 7 Integration of Biological collections and material resources into the data network • Description of work • Identification and listing of resource centers and mouse databases

  3. Nature Reviews Genetics, Jan 2007 b

  4. CASIMIR WP 7 Integration of Biological collections and material resources into the data network • Description of work • Identification and listing of resource centers and mouse databases √ • Direct contacts with scientific responsible persons • Cataloguing database structures, working practices and long term goals • Exploring “cost-recovery” business model and financial sustainability for their core activities. This WP will assess how the lessons learned might be applied to database sustainability.

  5. CASIMIR WP 7 Integration of Biological collections and material resources into the data network

  6. CASIMIR WP 7 Integration of Biological collections and material resources into the data network Deliverables D16: Report of the range of material resources available and how they might be accessed, including a guide on finding information on those resources using database queries. Published in the literature and on the web. This will include a report on potential for adoption by databases of business models developed by existing Resource centres. D15: Months 10,21,33. WP network meetings to coordinate activities and internal reporting on findings WP7 1st network meeting September 2007, Athens? Santorini?, Greece. Participants will be selected from the Nature publication list

  7. CASIMIR WP 7 Integration of Biological collections and material resources into the data network • WP7 1st network meeting September 2007, Athens? Santorini?, Greece • Participants: • CASIMIR WP leaders • H. Parkinson, EBI/ArrayExpress • H. de Angelis, EMMA • W. Mueller, GBF • EUCOMM representative • J. Eppig, IMSR • P. Carninci/Y. Hayashizaki, RIKEN

  8. CASIMIR WP 7 Integration of Biological collections and material resources into the data network • Some more suggestions • Position paper on Nucleic Acid Research Database issue (Jan 2008) • Minimum Information About Mouse Archiving (MIAMA?) • Case example database

  9. CASIMIR WP 7 Integration of Biological collections and material resources into the data network The MUGEN database as a case example for interoperability
