  11. 2. The Bear Flag Revolt • A group of Americans in California seized the town of Sonoma in June 1846 • In July the US Navy invaded California and claimed it for the US. ‪www.cherylannestapp.com

  14. 1. Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo • Officially ended the war • Mexico had to give up land, known as the Mexican Cession totaling 500,000 square miles • Included present day CA, NV, UT and parts of AZ, NM, CO, WY • It increased the size of the US by 25% ‪www.pershingms.org 

  15. The United States agreed to pay Mexico $15 million • The US also agreed to pay $3 million in claims held by US citizens against Mexico • The treaty provided protection for Mexicans living within the Mexican Cession
