  1. 14-19 Diploma: Progression to HE Celia Moran 3rd February 2009

  2. Key messages • Diplomas are welcomed but • Devil is in the detail • Detail still being worked on

  3. Our Diploma statement The University of Bradford welcomes the new diploma qualifications as an entry requirement for its undergraduate courses. The University has focused for many years on providing opportunities for all potential students. We have one of the best track records in the UK for widening participation and for employment after graduation. We believe that the diplomas are an exciting innovation which will provide greater curriculum choice for young people in schools and colleges. As such they provide a mix of vocational and academic study and lead to greater motivation. We are currently working on the detail of these with Education Bradford and local schools and colleges

  4. Offers based on UCAS points

  5. Current position at Bradford Looking at each course individually and how they link to the diploma Mapping complete by end 2008/09 (some by Easter) Engaging with local consortia re curriculum design

  6. Additional and Specialised Learning Course specific Not always required Perhaps more likely where there is technical content e.g. Society, Health and Development may not have enough science for some health courses.

  7. Extended project General view is that it appears a good way of preparing learners for higher education – to develop research, independent study and writing skills

  8. Next steps Specific post to deal with diploma, including providing advice and guidance. Progression agreements between UoB courses and Diplomas Year 12 summer schools 2009 and 2010 specifically for vocational learners – focus upon Diploma students.
