  3. Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP) • What is VRAP?

Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP) • VRAP is apart of the VOW to Hire Heroes Act of 2011 that will begin on July 1, 2012 • Purpose: To offer 12 months of training assistance to unemployed Veterans • Applications: submitted through the Department of Labor (DoL) and benefits paid by the VA • Payments: receive up to 12 months of assistance at the full-time rate under Montgomery GI-Bill-Active Duty ($1,473 per mo.) • Programs: • must be VA approved program at a community college or technical school • Program leading to an Associates, Non-College Degree, or Certification

Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP) • To qualify, a Veteran must: • Be between 35 – 60 years old • Be unemployed (determined by DoL) • Have an other than dishonorable discharge • Not be eligible for any other VA education program (e.g. Post-9/11 GI Bill, Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Assistance) • Not in receipt of VA compensation due to unemployability • Not enrolled in a federal/state job training program

  6. Chapter 35 Direct Deposit • Effective January 23, 2012, Chapter 35 claimants may receive payments via direct deposit

Interval Pay Changes According to Public Law 111-377 effective August 1, 2011: No More Interval “Break” Payment: • Break payments are no longer payable under any VA education benefit program unless under an Executive Order of the President due to an emergency situation such as a natural disaster or strike
