  2. A What?? • Shakespearean Sonnet. It’s a type of sonnet characterized by a certain structure formats. • Gave poets and writers more freedom with their “language of poor rhymes.”

  3. Structure • Divided into 3 quatrains and a couplet • Rhyme scheme is abab/cdcd/efef/gg • 14 lines • Contains a turn n which the subject plot changes

  4. Organization of Ideas • It varies from sonnet to sonnet • Some start with a question and the begin to answer it • The turn is where the mood changes in most sonnets

  5. Summary of Sonnet 30 • In lines 1-4, he looks back at his life and realizes all the mistakes he’s made. • In lines 5-9, he misses all of his family and friends who have passed on. • In lines 13, he realizes that he has one friend who can make him forget everything else in the world and be happy again.

  6. Thinking Critically • Lost friends, lost loves, lack of things he wanted • The thoughts of his friend • Line 13 • The story of a sad man is an account; summon up the remembrance is him remembering • Line 4, it stresses those words and makes them more important

  7. Sonnet 73 • After dusk in me you see the twilight of a cool fall day, and you see the fire after it’s died. • These are the things that keep our love strong

  8. Sonnet 73 • he’s a glowing fire, a day’s twilight, and love • Fall leaves and fires. Fall leaves are dead and fires soon die also. • Line 13 • The wood that once kept the fire going is now what has caused its death. So too much good is bad eventually • All these qualities just make the love stronger.
