  5. Reading/ELA • Multiple grades taken from same assignments; eg. When answering a discussion question for Social Studies, students are held accountable for correct spelling (within reason), capitalization, punctuation, and sentence structure. • Close reading strategies are being taught in small group settings • An increased number of non fiction passages used daily build upon knowledge of social sciences • Stress the importance of making connections (text to self, text to world, self to world) Jones

  9. Study Habits Student says, “No homework!” Translation: “I have a study guide to review.” Building strong habits is vital to your child’s education. Help them to build these skills. Having your child read the study guides and/or make note cards is a great start! Pickett
