  2. Colle’s Fracture • Fracture of the Distal Radius

  3. Also called the Dinner Fork Deformity!

  4. Mechanism of Injury • A fall on an outstretched pronated hand • Forces of twisting causing excessive supination of the forearm • Forces of compression through the wrist to the radius • Occurs about 1 inch from the end of the radius.

  5. Treatment • Casting until healed: if the bone is aligned. -If the break causes a deformity, the bone needs to be realigned. -Once healed, physical therapy is needed. (after about 6 weeks) • Surgical: bone is extremely out of place. -cast, metal pins, plate & screws, or external fixator.

  6. Recovery • Physical therapy • Ice & elevation • Non-prescription medication for pain relief • Resume light activity when cast is taken off, or about a month after a surgery. • Recovery expected to take at least a year.
