Mission Statement of the Joint Commission • To continuously improve health care for the public, in collaboration with other stakeholders, by evaluating health care organizations and inspiring them to excel in providing safe and effective care of the highest quality and value. 1910

Clinical Agency Goals • Similar core goals for all clinical agencies • Various goals tailored to specific clinical agencies
Patient Safety Advisory Group • Advises Joint Commission on : -evidence for suggestions -practicality and cost to implement • Make adjustments to number of goals • Reviews suggested actions for patient safety
Revisions to NPSG • Clarified / streamlined some elements • Hospital-Some goals retired (reduced number from 11 ) • Moved some to standards
