  6. STATISTICS • Buildings are one of the heaviest consumers of natural resources and account for a significant portion of the greenhouse gas emissions that affect climate change. In the U.S., buildings account for 38% of all CO2 emissions. • Buildings represent 73% of U.S electricity consumption. • 90% of Time Spent in Buildings

  7. WHAT CAN BE DONE?

AS OF JUNE 2012 • There are over 45,000 commercial projects participating in the LEED green building certification system, comprising over 8.4 billion square feet of construction space in 50 states and 120 countries. • In addition, over 19,000 units have been certified under the LEED for Homes rating system, half of which are in the affordable housing sector, with nearly 76,000 more units registered.

  19. LEED v4The next version of LEED. • LEED v4 is the newest update to the LEED rating systems. Changes from LEED 2009 are seen in three main categories: new market sectors, increased technical rigor and streamlined services. LEED v4 raises the bar on leadership.
