  1. The Water Problem By Andrew Shearouse and Nathan Bishop

  2. The Problem • Nearly 5,000,000 (five million) children die a YEAR from water related disease and illnesses. As you can see, animals waste, human waste and even dirt pollute the water. It is a very realistic threat to their health, and they need help.

  3. What is in the water? • In the water there are tons of bacteria that contain disease, such as diarrhea. It also contains animal waste, and human waste. If consumed, you can have excessive diarrhea that can lead to malnutrition.

  4. The Facts • Every 15 seconds a child is dying from water related illness. Not good! • Leading cause of death for children under the age of 5. That’s a lot of children • 1.4 million deaths a year from diarrhea.

  5. Our Solution • We (Nathan and Andrew) have decided to research certain purification systems, and see which one is the best. We need to find one that can remove bacteria and animal/human waste from the water, or at least kill the disease. It is a very real problem.

  6. Pur Water purification • Our first purification system is the Pur packet. All you have to do is dump it in dirty water and then stir it. It works excellent! You can buy a pack of six packets for $14.99!

  7. Bleach • Yes! You can bleach water to kill germs too! However, you can not use scented, color safe bleach, because it has added cleaner that will poison you. To purify add 16 drops of bleach for every gallon of water that you have. Then you stir it and let it sit for 30 minutes. If the water doesn’t have a very slight bleach odor, you need to repeat the 16 drops and let it sit 15 more minute. You should only use household liquid bleach.

  8. UV Ray Purification • You can even put a bottle of water under the sun for 6 hours if it is sunny, but if it is cloudy you have to wait 2 days. Anyways this method works because the UV rays heat the water and if the temperature is about 50 degrees Celsius, it will have disinfection three times faster. Also, the UV rays can kill bacteria. It may not always work though.

  9. Summary CLEAR!!! • As you can see there are many purification methods that they could use if they were taught by people. We could donate special UV bottles, or send them some bleach. Maybe we could give them some PuR packets.

  10. Our Conclusion • Overall we would have to say that the UV purification is the easiest, considering you need only a bottle of water. However, PuR is the bestup because you can finish in 5 minutes! Yea vag
