First, please ask yourself… • Do my personal and/or career interests match the focus of the program(s) to which I am applying? • Am I able to get recommendations from 2 teachers who can speak to my interests, performance, and future success in the program(s) to which I am applying? • Am I willing to choose from a smaller list of electives? • Am I willing to attend the high school where the program is located? • Do my grades in the subjects that are the academic focus of the learning center demonstrate that I am ready to accept challenge of this program? • Am I taking prerequisite Algebra 1 for application to Science and Engineering, Medical Science, and/or the Computer Science programs?

Business Administration (Marlboro HS) • Management, finance, economics, computer technology, business law, accounting • Competitions sponsored by Future Business Leaders of America and Federal Reserve • *Algebra requirement removed from this program* • Law & Public Service (Colts Neck HS) • History, politics, government, law • Externships (school, local, state, national levels) – government offices, volunteer agencies, law-related institutions, police departments, emergency + fire services

Navy JROTC (Colts Neck HS) • Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps • Leadership and character development program consisting of 4 areas: Leadership, Academics (naval sciences), Military skills (military customs, courtesies, drills, ceremonies), Physical Fitness • Makes direct recommendations to military service academies • Requires 1 additional recommendation from someone who can speak to your leadership capabilities • Requires an interview

Law Enforcement & Public Safety (Manalapan HS) • Career interests in law enforcement, fire fighting, homeland security, first response, forensic science, physical training • Training towards certification in public safety areas (ex. Red Cross First Aid + CPR) • Active participation in volunteer programs • Dialogue with local police • Science & Engineering (Manalapan HS) • Interested in pursuing careers in mathematics, engineering, or the physical sciences. • undertake an accelerated program in mathematics, science, computer science, and electronics. • * Completion of Algebra I by the end of 8th grade (≥ B average)

Fine and Performing Arts (Howell HS) • Majors: Acting, Dance, Entertainment Technology-Video, and Entertainment Technology-Music (music or video production tracks) • Produce and perform in showcases • Must have prior training in order to apply • Requires 1 additional recommendation from someone who can speak to your performing arts talent • Requires an audition or interview (*high determinant)

  16. Application The items that appear in blueare part of the on-line application which is completed by the student. The items that appear in black are to be completed separately by either teachers or the school counselor. Students will receive a registration ticket for the exam once the application has been processed: • Basic student contact information including a parent/guardian e-mail address • Student’s choice of up to 2 programs • One student essay for each program • A list of student’s activities and interests • Student’s academic records, including 7th grade final averages and 8th grade MP1 averages • Recommendations from appropriate teachers or professionals • Entrance Exam for Business Admin., Computer Sci., Global Studies, Humanities, Law & Public Service, Med. Sci., and Science & Engineering • Audition for Fine and Performing Arts Academy • Interview for Navy Junior ROTC Academy

Timeline • Oct • Open houses (orientation, meet staff, students, tour) • Online application opens for approximately 1 month • Nov • Essay & Extracurricular List deadline • Dec • Recommendation deadline* • Entrance exams (Sleep early and eat breakfast) • March • Notifications begin • *Check online periodically to make sure your program receives each part of your application

High Technology HS (Brookdale Community College, Lincroft, NJ) • Pre-engineering career academy • Emphasizes interconnections among Math, science, technology, humanities • Able to earn college credits through: Brookdale, Rochester Institute of Technology, Georgian Court University • 2018-# 3 best High School for STEM in the country • ~75 students accepted from a pool of over 350

Academy of Allied Health & Science (Neptune, NJ) • Career interest in medical sciences, health technology • Emphasis on computer technology in health fields • Mentorship and internship programs with health care professionals - students experience hands on activities in the health field • Volunteer opportunities at Jersey Shore Medical Center • 4 class periods (85 min. periods) • Able to earn college credits through: University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ, Georgian Court University • ~80 students accepted

Marine Academy of Science & Technology (Sandy Hook, NJ) (MAST) • Focuses on marine science and marine technology/ engineering, environmental studies • Regular scientific contact with beaches, ocean • 65-foot research vessel (“Blue Sea”) owned and operated by the Marine Academy • NJROTC (Naval Junior Reserves Office Training Corps) replaces P.E. • Classes on alternating days with 80 min. periods • ~70 students accepted
