In this 6th grade assignment, students will create a still life composition using contour line drawing. They will arrange at least five objects in the room and select one as the focal point. The students will block in the basic shapes of the objects, fill in the details, and emphasize the focal point. This assignment will be assessed based on composition, focal point emphasis, details, and craftsmanship.

  1. 6th Grade AssignmentStill life composition using contour line. • Using still life objects in the room, compose a still life of at least five or more objects. Select one of the objects to be the focal point (center of interest).

  2. Step 1 • Lightly block in large basic shapes of the objects you plan to draw (arrange/compose) Use compositional devices: placement or arrangement on format, overlapping, variety of shapes and sizes, balance.

  3. Step 2 • Fill in details of still life.

  4. Step 3 • Concentrate on details at focal point. This is the center of interest, the first thing a viewer will see.

  5. Rubric: • Composition 50 pts. • Focal point in emphasized 30 pts. • Details 10 pts. • Craftsmanship 10 pts.
