  3. ALADIN Research Commons • Shared institutional repository based on Dspace software • Each university has it’s own Dspace community within the shared environment • Working group with representation from all members guides software enhancement process and development of policies for use of the repository http://aladinrc.wrlc.org/index.jsp

  4. WRLC Digital Object Catalog • Digital object management system based on Dspace software • Manages digital objects and associated metadata for WRLC Digital Collections • Will allow alternative discovery and access mechanisms for digital collections material (outside the Greenstone interface)

  5. WRLC Digital Object Catalog (continued) • Digital Object Catalog also provides archiving for other digital content • Olive digital newspaper images and metadata • Potential storage for archival copies of electronic journal content (currently exploring this option) • All digital formats can be accommodated • Materials stored in relational database rather than file systems

  6. Current digital collection environment Dspace Digital Object Databases User Interfaces ALADIN Research Commons Dspace User Interface Digital Object Catalog Greenstone Digital Collection Interface

  7. Future digital collection environment Dspace Digital Object Databases User Interfaces ALADIN Research Commons Dspace User Interface Digital Object Catalog Greenstone Digital Collection Interface Metasearch Gateway OAI Gateways

  8. Next steps… • Create public access mechanisms for materials in the Digital Object Catalog • Develop metasearch capabilities to allow searching of the ALADIN Research Commons and WRLC Digital Object Catalog via our Metalib interface • Register our repositories with the Open Archives Registry and OAI compliance

  9. Funding WRLC’s digital content initiatives • WRLC is funded by annual assessments paid by each member university • All digital content operations are funded within the collective WRLC budget • No chargeback to member libraries for use of digital content systems or digitization of physical collections – the content benefits all members • WRLC reserves the right to charge in cases where costs outside the scope of our normal budget are incurred
