  1. LucidControl USB Analog Output Module — Controlling Voltage and Current Signals by USB The LucidControl USB Analog Output Module belongs to the group of LucidControl IO products. LucidControl provides various products processing analog and digital signals. LucidControl products are reasonable priced units made for home and industrial automation applications. LucidControl USB IO units can be fixed on a DIN-Rails as they can be found in switch cabinets. The USB Analog Output Module is connected to the USB port and generates up to 4 independent voltage or current output channels. General Functionality of the USB Analog Output Module The 4 channels of the USB analog output module are controlled by a DAC (digital to analog converter) with a resolution of 12 bit. The devices are specified with a typical accuracy of 0.25% of the maximum output value over a temperature range of 0–55°C. The analog output modules operate with standard USB port. The USB port powers the module with 5V. The USB analog output module generates the necessary voltages for driving 10V or 20mA or other output configurations — no additional power adapter is necessary.

  2. USB Module with Voltage Output Channels The USB analog output module can be ordered with voltage output channels. Voltage outputs can be in the range of 0–5V, 0–10V, and 0–24V. A configuration with -12V to +12V is also available. Without configuration is the 0–10V output module. 0– 10V interfaces are often used in building automation e.g. to control the power of a pump in a central heating system. question, the most relevant The schematic shows the wiring of the IO terminal connector. represents the power sink. Each analog voltage output channel can source a current up to 40mA. The lamp symbol All output channels of LucidControl USB Analog Output Module share a common ground signal which is also the ground of the host computer. USB Module with Current Output Channels The current output configuration of the USB analog output module drives current outputs of 0–20mA or 4–20mA. 4–20mA current loop interfaces are used when analog signals should be transmitted over a long distance without of loss of accuracy. A programmable current is emitted to the line and measured on the receiver side. This avoids errors created by voltage drops over long-distance transmission lines.

  3. The analog output module is able to drive the 4–20mA current through a burden resistor load of 500 Ohm. Driving a current of 20mA through the termination resistor of 500 Ohm results in a voltage of 10V. The picture shows the IO connection of the analog output module with current output channels. The “I” symbol represents an ampere meter measuring the sourced current. The current output module shares the same ground between all output channels. Because of the thorough documentation and the availability of API and examples for many programming languages such as C# (.NET), Python and Java, the devices are an excellent solution for starters as well as specialists. LucidControl uses standard virtual comport drivers which are included in most operating systems and no third-party driver needs to be installed. Once the module was detected, it can be accessed by its comport name. Beside of the API the engineer can start using the LucidIoCtrl console application. This program allows the user to set the output channel values by simply entering a single line to the Linux terminal window or the Windows command prompt. Since the communication interface is entirely documented, LucidControl can also be interfaced without using out API. If you have some questions about our products, feel free to contact us .
