Who was she? • Born Annelies Marie Frank on June 12th, 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany, to Otto and Edith Frank • Was a German-Jewish teenager who was forced to go into hiding during the Holocaust • First five years of her life, lived with parents and older sister Margot in an apartment on the outskirts of Frankfort

Going into hiding • 1st half of July of 1942, Anne and her family went into hiding in an apartment which would hide four Dutch Jews as well • For two years they lived in a secret attic apartment behind the office of the family-owned business at 263 Prinsengracht Street • Anne referred to this attic as the Secret Attex in a diary she wrote while in hiding • However, during their hiding, they were arrested by German officials and sent them to Westorborkon Augest 8th • Four months later they were moved to Auschwitz to a concentration camp where Anne and Margot were selected for labor

Anne’s diary • While in hiding, Anne kept a diary where she recorded her fears, hopes, and experiences • Diary was later found in the secret apartment after the family was caught and arrested • Diary was kept by MiepGies • Was later published after WWII in many languages and is used in thousands of schools in Europe and America

Legacy • Anne had lost her mother to starvation, her sister to typhus, and believed her father to be dead • Three days after her sister’s death, Anne herself died of typhus in March 1949 • The camp was liberated by British troops a few weeks later • Anne Frank has become a symbol for the last promise of the children who died in the Holocaust
