QUADRILATERALS. Topic 9 Lesson 9-6. “Quad” means 4. Figures with four sides are called “quadrilaterals”. Quadrilaterals can be classified by their angles or pairs of sides. “Poly” means “many”. So any polygon with 4 sides is called a “quadrilateral” because it has many sides.

  2. “Quad” means 4. Figures with four sides are called “quadrilaterals”.

  3. Quadrilaterals can be classified by their angles or pairs of sides.

  4. “Poly” means “many”. So any polygon with 4 sides is called a “quadrilateral” because it has many sides.

  6. rectangle 4 right angles also called a parallelogram

  7. rhombus opposite sides are parallel and all sides are the same length

  8. square 4 right angles All sides are the same length. It is a parallelogram, rhombus, & a rectangle.

  9. What is the difference between a rhombus and a square? A square has 4 right angles. A rhombus does not.

  10. So a square is also a rhombus, but a rhombus is not a square!

  13. Now you can recognize quadrilaterals.
