  2. Do Now: Quickwrite for 10 minutes RRJ p. 77 • Look back in your notes at the information you learned about the names of the main characters in The Giver. • Make a prediction about what the character Rosemary, who will be introduced in chapter 18. • What is she like? What will happen to her?

  4. Chapters 18 & 19RRJ p.77 • What happened to Rosemary? What were the implications for the society? • What does Jonas learn about being Released? How does this effect how he thinks? • To what extent does Jonas’ father know about what his son is doing? • What would you do with Gabriel if you were his father? • Why and how does the society shield its citizens from the true meaning of “Release”? What might happen if everyone knew what Release really meant? • Do they have any background knowledge to have an opinion about release?

  5. Think-Pair-Share • After the reading is completed, discuss your notes with the people at your table • Choose the best answer to each question and make sure you have it recorded in your notebook • The teacher will then ask a group to share its answer. One person will share the best answer.
