  3. Grading Policy Our goal is to ensure that students master the standards. We are transitioning away from the traditional 100 point grading scale. We want all students to be successful.

  4. Agendas We ask that you sign the agenda once a week. The purpose of the agenda is to help students stay organized with assignments & to help with communication between school & home. Agendas must be brought to every class, everyday. Teachers will stamp every day in every class. If you see a circled “H”, it means that your child didn’t complete their practice (homework). If your child’s agenda is damaged or lost, you are responsible for replacing it.

  10. 6th Grade Visual Arts • In Sixth grade, the students will be using the Elements of Design to create pieces of artwork in various media. The students will be introduced to many different artists from all around the world and throughout time. The students will also be introduced to the Principles of Design, so that they may utilize both elements and principles of design to create well-rounded artworks. All projects are coordinated with the Arizona State Standards for Visual Arts Education (create, relate, and evaluate). • Students in the middle school level also fill out self-critiques for all projects so that they review what they have done, what was done well, and what could be improved. • Students will be using my website to complete homework assignments: http://www.husd.org//Domain/1586 • Elements of Design: Line, Shape, Color, Value, Texture, Form, Space • Principles of Design: Rhythm, Balance, Pattern, Proportion, Emphasis, Unity, Variety • Various Projects being done throughout the year • One Point Perspective School Hallway: Watercolor • Portrait-Less Self Portrait: Pencil, Colored Pencil, Marker • Egyptian Sarcophagus: Stuffed Paper, Crayon • Artist Signature Stamps: Printing Ink • Masks: Clay • Online Art History Reviews and Critiques

  15. Novel Lab • This is a rare opportunity for students grades 3-6 who love to write, to create their own novel. We will be doing activities / lessons that teach the process. This is a creative endeavor that will take 1-2 semesters and will continue at home. It is in alignment with the standards taught in each grade level and will integrate science and social studies units. For those students who do not choose to write a novel, they will be reaping the benefits of these creative lessons in their classrooms. • If you have any further questions, please call me or visit for a chat. • Respectfully, Ms. Engel / Gifted Specialist
