  2. Preliminaries • In your notebooks, respond to the anticipation guide drawn on the board. 10 classwork pts.

  3. Objectives: • The students will be able to engage in critical reading using the P-R-R strategy. • The students will be able to write a personal response to the reading consisting of at least 5 sentences. • The students will be able to differentiate between denotative and connotative meanings.

  4. Focus Lesson: “Going Ape” • Small Groups • Divide into pairs or groups of 3. • Preview pp. 48-52 in Emotions magazine. • Write the answers to the following in your notebooks: • Is the selection fiction or non-fiction? How do you know? • What do the photographs and illustrations tell you about the kind of information you will learn about? • Take turns reading using your “6-inch voices.” • Independent Practice: complete pp. 27-29 of your journals.
