  2. Good research requires you to: • keep detailed, relevant and organised research notes • take notes in the form of sentences that summarise the research you have read • record quotes or statistics that you will use as your evidence in your paragraphs • consult a wide range of reliable sources

Start with the topic/topic question • Look at your assignment topic/topic question and highlight the task words, content words and limiting words. • This will identify the essential topics that you must research Task Words • tell you what to do; • the action(s) you need to perform. • are usually verbs. Content Words • tell you what the topic area is • limit and define the essay, making it workable. • help you to focus your research and reading on the correct area. Limiting Words • tell you what area(s) to focus on • define the topic area further • indicate aspects of the topic area you should narrowly concentrate on. • e.g. Content Words Focus Question 4: What funerary practices/rituals were common in the New Kingdom? Describe these practices. Task Word Limiting Words

Create questions from your key words/topics • e.g. • Defineserious assault and identify the penalties available • Evaluate the effectiveness of the serious assault law in QLD What is serious assault? • What are the maximum penalties for serious assault in QLD? What do statistics suggest about the number of serious assaults that occur in QLD? What do case studies and court sentences suggest about the effectiveness of the current law? What opinions do stakeholders offer about the effectiveness of serious assault laws in QLD?
