  9. Security Application Fire department and other rescue services Rescue and security services often find themselves in strange buildings or other environments where GPS/Galileo navigation is not possible, e.g. firemen and other rescue personnel that undertake rescue attempts inside buildings. Often these rescue services are themselves in considerable danger. A system that gives the command center or the person in charge outside a building real-time information on the position and status of rescue personnel in the building considerably increases the safety of such personnel. This is made possible by using Loran-C in conjunction with a communication system such as, e.g. analog or digital trunked radio, as is already used by rescue services. Thanks to Loran-C, for the first time it is possible to deploy rescue services inside closed buildings, which considerably enhances the safety and efficiency of the personnel concerned. Precise information on the current position of the individual persons can make, for instance, the search for missing persons in a burning building much more effective, safe or in some cases even possible in the first place. This contributes to the safety of both the rescuers and the rescues. Loran-C offers the possibility of direction recognition even when the receiver is motionless, which is of crucial significance in accurately guiding rescue personnel. detectis gmbh

  10. Security Application Police, security personnel Precise information on position is absolutely indispensable for command centers coordinating the deployment of security personnel in inner cities or on factory premises. In many cases, it is impossible to coordinate or even lead different units or separate groups without accurate information on position. A combined Loran-C – GPS/Galileo receiver offers almost ideal prerequisites for ensuring position determination under the most difficult deployment conditions. The combined use of Loran-C and GPS/Galileo makes it possible to determine position with a high degree of accuracy in the narrowest of streets or inside buildings, or even underground. Using analog or digital trunked radio as a back channel keeps the operational command informed of the current positions and status of their units at all times. Loran-C's direction recognition function, even when the receiver is motionless, is crucial for the precise deployment of security forces. detectis gmbh

  11. Security Application Mountain rescue service The mountain rescue service often has to operate in very difficult terrain, such as gorges, thick forests, and crevasses. Owing to the restricted line of sight to the satellites, exclusively satellite-based navigation almost always comes up against limiting factors. By contrast, with a combined Loran-C – GPS/Galileo receiver, the mountain rescue service can successfully fulfill its rescue obligations even in the most remote areas. Thanks to the precise navigation, the rescue workers know at all times precisely where they are. The possibility of using a back channel, e.g. analog or digital trunked radio or another communications system, to send back information to the command center can substantially improve coordination and speed up the search for missing persons. detectis gmbh

  12. Transportation Car navigation The deployment of Loran-C in car navigation can lead to considerable savings, particularly in the modernization of navigation systems. The combination of Loran-C and GPS/GALILEO systems does away with the need for expensive sensors for wheels, steering angle or speedometer. Using Loran-C can save the cost of a gyro. Thanks to the redundancy of the two navigation systems, together with their high availability and accuracy, users will always be able to determine accurate and stable positions even when conditions make reception difficult. Thus, customers get a better system for less money. detectis gmbh

  13. Transportation Maritime The deployment of a combined Loran-C – GPS/Galileo receiver substantially increases the availability, accuracy and integrity of navigation. This redundancy is particularly useful in the harsh weather conditions in the world's oceans and virtually indispensable for modern ships. Given the very different physical properties of Loran-C and GPS/GALILEO, the likelihood that interference or noise would cause both to fail at the same time is more or less excluded. Today, this redundancy is indispensable for all passenger ships, freighter and tankers. If one of the systems suffers an inherent failure, the other will take over navigation seamlessly. Especially in critical regions, such as the straits between the UK and France, redundant navigation solutions are an indispensable safety factor in ships. detectis gmbh

  14. Transportation Toll collection Easy and thus cheaper installation of toll collection systems is an important prerequisite for transit vehicles. The use of a Loran-C receiver for toll collection saves the expense of wheel sensors, speedometer contacts, steering angle sensors, etc. The combination of Loran-C and GPS/GALILEO even makes it possible to dispense with a gyro. If one of the systems or pieces of equipment suffers an inherent failure, the remaining system will take over navigation seamlessly. In northern regions where the satellite cover of GPS and Galileo is not so good for technical reasons, Loran-C is often necessary for sufficiently accurate positioning. detectis gmbh

  15. Logistic Real-time track-and-trace With just-in-time methods, transparency in product flows is an absolute necessity Thus use of different logistics companies in a single delivery chain or even a single transport has made real-time track and trace almost impossible. Although forwarding companies are often able to determine the exact position of their vehicles, but in very few cases are they able to give the current position of a specific consignment. Loran-C makes real-time track-and-trace possible. As a rule, goods are either in vehicles, warehouses or containers; because of the lack of line-of-sight, positioning with GPS/Galileo is not possible. Loran-C, by contrast, is able to determine the precise position of goods in vehicles, warehouses and containers and transmit the information via a GSM module. With this real-time tracking information, the arrival of a consignment can be calculated extremely precisely and the production process in, say, a car factory can be adjusted accordingly. detectis gmbh

  16. Consumer Handheld PDA /Mobile phone navigation Using only GPS/Galileo-based navigation systems for orientation in large cities quickly comes up against limiting factors. Our large cities are so heavily built up that buildings often hinder the line of sight to GPS or Galileo satellites, making it impossible to use exclusively satellite-based navigation. In such cases, a combined Loran-C – GPS/Galileo receiver offers a good functional solution. A combined receiver enables users to receive precise navigation information even in the most densely populated conurbations. Navigation is even possible inside buildings, which is a decisive advantage for pedestrians. In such cases, Loran-C's direction recognition, even when the receiver is motionless, is of crucial significance for precise pedestrian navigation. detectis gmbh
