  1. ACLA Week 9 What is included in technical writing? How do we use technical writing in today’s society? What are the key elements of technical writing? Can you identify and locate prepositional phrases within a sentence? What are the definitions of the eight parts of Speech? (reassess)

  2. Homework Recopy your DGP notes. Every Thurs at 8 am there will be a DGP Tutorial. You MUST COMPLETE the formative assignments to retake the re=assessments. Complete your Fibonacci poem. Final copy is graded on QUALITY, including neatness, spelling, ideas.

  3. AGENDA DGP The Veldt: second reading/ notes. What is technical writing? Create a Fibonacci poem. Turn in it is in FINAL DRAFT, using CALLIGRAPHY (beautiful writing), on a WHITE PAPER. Due 10/22.

  4. The Veldt Notes sheet for first reading of “The Veldt”. Complete the first reading notes sheet in complete sentences. Notes sheet 2: complete during second reading. Interpretive Question: What caused the nursery outcome? What actually happened to Wendy and Peter’s parents? Write three Costa level questions in the last section.

  5. Socratic Seminar Each student will complete the handout during and after the discussion. You may use your book during the discussion. You must wait to be acknowledged by the leader in order to speak. Each student should speak three times: Ask a question. Answer a question. Give evidence and page number.

  6. After the Discussion: Complete your four square discussion sheet. TURN IT IN TODAY. When finished you may SSR. No Reader’s Notebook reflection today;)

  12. Varied sentences/directions for practice. Bracket each clause. [ ] CIRCLE all subordinating conjunctions. Underline the subject once and the verb twice. Label each clause as ind. or dep. Label each sentence type. Correlative conjunctions: either, or neither, nor Either [Sally will ride in your car], or[ she will not attend the concert.]= compound

  13. You MUST use commas. USING A COMMA IS NOT OPTIONAL. Always use a comma before a FANBOY. Always use a comma after a transition or direct address. Always use a comma after an introductory dependent clause. Always use a comma when using an appositive brushstroke. Always use a comma when listing items. Always use a comma with a dialogue expression.

  14. Tiered Prepositions Score an 80 % or higher Complete the preposition song or foldable !!!! Score below an 80% Complete two pages of preposition practice. Self-assess Create a preposition song or a foldable. Retake the quiz!!!! DUE—10/19 TUESDAY

  15. Preposition/POS Pretest- Post Complete your practice to re-take an assessment. Preposition: complete a mini-project: song or foldable. Complete the two-page practice handout. Self-assess your handouts before Tuesday. (in class) POS- create a poster of any element you missed on the quiz. Word-definition-examples-your ideas to remember this element?

Preposition Song On top of spaghetti, all covered with cheese, I lost my poor meatball, when somebody sneezed, it rolled off the table, and fell to the floor, and now my poor meatball is smashed on the floor. Create a preposition song. Use at least five prepositional phrases, (highlight the phrases.) Create a neat, final copy. Sing for the class?

  17. Parts of Speech If you did not score 80% or higher on your POS Quiz: Create a ½ poster about the parts of speech you missed. Include: The definition Examples and ideas to help you remember the element.

  18. Compose a FIBONACCIWhat do these numbers mean to you? 1 + 0 = 11 + 1 = 22 + 1 = 33 + 2 = 5 5 + 3 = 88 + 5 = 1313 + 8 = 21etc. Action verbs, Sensory details, Concrete nouns, QUALITY, Calligraphy, COLOR?? THEME!!!

  19. This is how Fibonacci works: Fibonacci poetry is a literary form based on the Fibonacci number sequence. The sequence begins like this: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21. In order to find the next number in the sequence, you add the two preceding numbers. The sum of these two is the next number, which then is added to the one before it to get to the next number, and so on. Now, create one!

  21. Technical Writing VocabularyGet a piece of plain paper. Divide the paper into three equal sections

  22. Fictional Narrative Reflection Get your story back. Get your portfolio. READ all the comments and look at the rubric. Write three more things that YOU CAN DO WELL. Write three things you CAN WORK ON THIS YEAR. Put story in the portfolio, put reflection in the basket for an assessment!!!!!!

  23. Scripts Spelling Bee written exam Take out a sheet of paper and an INK pen. Number 1 to 50 (do not skip lines.) Spell each word as best you can. The top spellers will be invited to take part in their Team Bee, and maybe represent their Team on stage in the Palmer Spelling Bee!!!! Good Luck.
