  1. Who Is God?Lesson Ten: God of all Comfort

  2. 2 Corinthians 1:3 (NKJV) Blessed bethe God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort.

  3. Many people vainly turn to the world and the things of the world for comfort at the cost of their eternal salvation(1 John 2:15-16).

  4. Only as you walk by faith will God be the “God of all comfort” in your life and in the life to come.

  5. When Troublesome Times Come, Where Do You Go for Comfort? • The emptiness of “worldly comforts.” • Examples: Overeating, gluttony, shopping, material possessions, entertainment – TV, internet, music, pornography, gaming, gambling, alcohol, drugs, etc.

  6. Such “worldly comforts” do not satisfy; they do not take the pain away, solve your problems, nor bring you inner peace (Isa. 57:21; Heb. 11:25).

  7. When Troublesome Times Come, Where Do You Go for Comfort? • The emptiness of “worldly comforts.” • Go to God for the comfort your soul really needs.

  8. Many things we suppose provide us comfort, that are “lawful” may not really be that profitable and can even enslave us over time.

  9. 1 Corinthians 6:12 (NKJV) All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

  10. It can be a hard lesson to learn that only God provides real comfort.

  11. Psalms 57:1-2 (NKJV) 1 Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You; And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, until thesecalamities have passed by. 2I will cry out to God Most High, to God who performs all thingsfor me.

  12. Let God be Your Source of Comfort. • Through prayer

  13. Isaiah 51:12 (NKJV) "I, even I, am He who comforts you. Who are you that you should be afraid of a man who will die, and of the son of a man who will be made like grass?

  14. Psalms 23:1-4 (NKJV) 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

  15. Psalms 94:18-19 (NKJV) 18 If I should say, "My foot has slipped, “Thy lovingkindness, O Lord, will hold me up. 19 When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Thy consolations delight my soul.

  16. Let God be Your Source of Comfort. • Through prayer • Through His word (John 14:16; Acts 9:31; 1 Thes. 4:18)

  17. Rather than resort to “worldly comforts”, invest your time in the Holy Scriptures that has the power to lift your spirit!

  18. Romans 15:4-5 (NKJV) 4 For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. 5 Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus.

  19. Psalms 119:50 (NASB) This is my comfort in my affliction, that Thy word has revived me.

  20. Let God be Your Source of Comfort. • Through prayer • Through His word • Through His people • Those who have experienced first hand the comfort of God in troublesome times can serve as comforters to others.

  21. Psalms 71:19-21 (NASB) 9 For Thy righteousness, O God, reaches to the heavens, Thou who hast done great things; O God, who is like Thee? 20 Thou, who hast shown me many troubles and distresses, wilt revive me again, and wilt bring me up again from the depths of the earth. 21 Mayest Thou increase my greatness, and turn to comfort me.

  22. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NKJV) 3 Blessed bethe God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. - cf. 1 Thes. 5:14

  23. The God of all Comfort Gives Every Christian an “Everlasting Consolation.” • The greatest comfort of all that God gives is the hope of eternal life!

  24. 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 (NKJV) 16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given useverlasting consolation and good hope by grace, 17 comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work. - cf. Heb. 6:18

  25. Isaiah 12:1-2 (NASB) 1 Then you will say on that day, "I will give thanks to Thee, O Lord; For although Thou wast angry with me, Thine anger is turned away, and Thou dost comfort me.2 "Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; For the Lord God is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation."
