  1. Year 8 Gravity and Space Project Sept 2011

  2. Your project • Must be your own words – not copied from the internet • Note down the address of any website used and the name of any book used • Can be on power point – if so, then it needs to be emailed to your teacher, not printed out. It needs to have less than 100 words per slide. • Can be on Word – if so, it can be printed out, but must contain only words you understand • Can be done by hand

  3. Your Project should contain.... • A explanation for day and night, a year and the seasons • The phases of the moon and what causes them • A description of the Solar System and brief information about the planets • What satellites are and how they stay in orbit • How weight changes on different planets • The current view of what the universe is and how we fit into that view • Your own ideas about what life might be like on planets or moon in other solar systems

  4. Level 4 • The project gives a basic outline of day and night, a year, the seasons and the lunar orbit • There is a simple description of the planets and satellites, and how they orbit • There is a brief description of the structures in the universe • There is an unlabelled illustration of an alien

  5. Level 5 • The project gives an explanation of day and night, a year, the seasons and the lunar orbit • There is a description of the planets and satellites, and how they orbit. There is some detail about each planet • There is a description of the structures in the universe and how these were discovered • There is an illustration of an alien in a planetary setting

  6. Level 6 • The project gives an diagram of how day and night, a year, the seasons occur. The phases of the moon are explained. • There is a description of the planets and satellites, and how they orbit. There is detail about each planet related to its position in the solar system • There is a description of the structures in the universe and how these were discovered. There is an appreciation of the previous ideas about the universe • There is a diagram of an alien in a planetary setting, and characteristics of the alien are related to the environment

  7. Level 7 • The project gives a detailed labelled diagram of how day and night, a year, the seasons occur. The phases of the moon are explained with relation to the light source and the observer • There is research on the planets and satellites, and how they orbit. There is detail about each planet related to its position in the solar system and how this affects the characteristics of the planet • There is some discussion about the different gravitational effects on each planet • There is a description of the structures in the universe and how that is linked to gravity; and how these were discovered. There is an appreciation of the previous ideas about the universe. • There is a diagram of an alien in a planetary setting, and characteristics of the alien are related to the environment. The environment is explained by the characteristics of the planet.
