  4. Anchor Activity How long have you been a member of the Women’s Missionary Society? • 1st year ~ Eggs • 2nd -5th years ~ Larvae/Caterpillars • 6th -20th years ~ Butterflies • 20th years + ~ Glorious Butterflies Laying Eggs

  5. Reflection • What is your fondest memory of Women’s Missionary Society work? • Why did you stay active in the Women’s Missionary Society? Share with your “elbow partner”.

  6. Group Assessment • Are you involved in a missionary project that was started before 2000? • Are you involved in a project that was initiated since 2010? Are we becoming a buggy whip Missionary Society?

  7. The Buggy Whip Analogy • Turn of the 20th Century the automobile was a newfangled contraption. • All of the buggy whip makers went out of business. Why? • Did the automobile industry kill the buggy whip business? NO! • Marketing Myopia: Too narrow an analysis of a business’s focus. Moral: Adapt or perish  !

  8. The Buggy Whip Application The WMS should not become a “buggy whip” organization. So, what should we become? Mission of the Women’s Missionary Society of the African Methodist Church: As women called to discipleship to grow in knowledge and experience of God through Jesus Christ, committed to support the mission of the church, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we are challenged to help one another engage in ministry and action, and grow and respond in faith to God's redemptive plan for the church, the society and the world.

  10. Our Prayer Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, "Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain." And God granted his request. 1 Chronicles 4:10
