  3. ANGER.

  4. Memory Verse: Matthew 5:22 “22 But I say unto you, that whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.” BIBLE PASSAGE:James 1:19-20 INTRODUCTION: Anger can be defined as God-given emotional response usually tied to a goal, a value or expectation. It is a violent emotion of a painful nature, sometimes arising spontaneously upon just occasion, but usually characterized in the bible as a great sin – Ephesians 4:26. Love, sex etc. are emotions like anger. ANGER

  5. ANGER Outlines: TWO WAY TO EXPRESS ANGER PRINCIPLES OF TAMING YOUR TEMPER

  6. ANGER • Outline 1: • TWO WAYS TO EXPRESS ANGER • Imploding: This is an act of caving in, shrinking or breaking down inwardly as a result of external pressure. It may lead to a change of attitude as a means of expression of anger – Ecclesiastes 7:9. • Exploding: This goes with physical expression including violence and shouting. The Bible clearly cautions on this – Proverbs 25:28, Galatians 5:22-23, Ephesians 4:26-27.

  7. Outline 2: • PRINCIPLES OF TAMING YOUR TEMPER. • Admit that you are angry. It is a command, so it is valid and not inherently wrong - Ephesians 4:26. Introverts can belly their anger but could be vindictive. God’s anger lasts a moment while favour last forever - Psalm 30:5. • Understand your anger. There is appropriate and inappropriate anger. People get angry for three reasons: • When we are hurt • When frustrated • When we are threatened. • Ask yourself, ‘Does getting angry solve the situation?’ If it does not, then check yourself. ANGER

  8. ANGER • Outline 2: • PRINCIPLES OF TAMING YOUR TEMPER. • Resolve your anger quickly- Ephesians 4:26-27says do not let the sun go down on your anger. Resolve issues quickly. Never go to bed angry. Do not nurse grudge. • You need to control anger. Uncontrolled anger will give the devil a foothold over our lives to control us - Ephesians 4:27.

  9. ANGER • CONCLUSION • There are three practical steps you can take to control your anger: • Stop and think before you speak – Proverbs 15:1. • Look at the situation from God’s point of view - Proverbs 12:15. • Listen to those you are angry with. Hear the other man’s word view.
