Plus-que-parfait Used in French as the past perfect in English When one action precedes another in the past, the verb describing the first action is the plus-que-parfait; the tense of the second veb will be passé composé or imparfait Ex. Ma mère m’a dit un jour qu’elle avait reçu une lettre en français. Je n’ai plus jamais parlé de Lassie. Elle était sortie de ma vie pour toujours.

  3. Formation • Plus-que-parfait is made up of two parts: the auxiliary verb être or avoir + past participle of main verb 1. The auxiliary verb:the same 17 verbs conjugated with être and reflexive verbs 2. All other verbs are conjugated with avoir 3. When negating a sentence, only the auxiliary verb is negated.

  4. Le conditionnel présent Expresses what would would, could, might, or would happen if a certain condition existed. In French, this tense has one work , whereas in English it has two. Ex. Si je gaignais assez d’argent, j’achèterais un chaler à Chamonix. If I earned enough money, I would buy a chalet in Chamonix.

  5. Formation Add following ending to stem of the verb, its infinitive form or a modified form of the infinitive Verbs that end in –er, the infinitive is used on most cases. Ex. Nous voyagerions à pied si nous n’avions pas de vélo.

  8. Usage of the conditional Can be used to express politeness by softening or attenuating a request, a command , or a suggestion. The verbs vouloir, pouvoir, savoir, devoir are often used in this context. Ex. Je voudrais connaître vos projets. Pourrais-tu m’aider avec ma valise?
