How was the Dalai Lama “discovered”? • 1933, 13th Dalai Lama died. • Clues where to search: NE, a monk had a vision in a sacred river and saw the letters A, K, and H as well as a 3-story blue temple and a house with a twisted gutter. This helped them locate the village in Tibet containing these buildings. • Little boy identified all objects previously owned by 13th Dalai Lama, repeatingly declaring, “It’s mine.” He addressed all the monks by name (strangers), even pointed to a locked cupboard and said, “There are my teeth!” Inside was a small box containing dentures.

  4. Tibet/China Story • 1949, Communist China invades Tibet forcefully. • In 1954, The Dalai Lama visited Beijing for talks with Mao. He was still hopeful for a peaceful solution. • China completes invasion of Tibet and still occupies the territory today. • 1959, Dalai Lama exiled to India. Dalai Lama shaking Mao's hand during his visit to China in 1954.
