  2. General Information • Upper Austria is one of the nine states of Austria (third larges). • Capital: Linz • Area:11,980 km2 • Inhabitants: 1.3 million • Upper Austria borders on Germany and the Czech Republic, as well as on the other Austrian states of Lower Austria, Styria, and Salzburg

  3. Administration • Administrative divisions • Upper Austria is traditionally divided into four regions: Hausruckviertel, Innviertel, Mühlviertel, and Traunviertel. • Administratively, the state is divided into 15 districts, and three Statutarstädte.

  4. Economy • 16,28% of the overall Austrian gross domestic product (GDP) • Strongly international in its orientation:Upper Austria is the leading export location within Austria. Approx. 25% of the Austrian goods exported are produced here: • particularly exports in the direction of the EU • in addition, exports to the economies of Central and Eastern Europe. .

  5. Economy Fundamental structure: synergy between several large companies and numerous small and medium-sized enterprises . Manufacturing is the dominating factor in the Upper Austrian economy. Branches: steelmaking, chemicals, mechanical engineering, automotive products and general metalworking (60% of the of the Upper Austrian production value and employ) Agriculture and forestry represent an important basis for numerous processing companies (important pulp and paper sector) 48,5% of the Region is farmland, which directly or indirectly supports 312,000 inhabitants. Tourism represents an additional source of employment and foreign exchange.
