DEMAND MANAGEMENT OF IMMUNOGLOBULINS Clinical Guidelines for appropriate use of IVIg Demand Management Plan (promotion of alternatives) Development of database Model Commissioning Policy (MCP) Alternatives This programme aims to ensure that critical patients receive product and improve consistency of use of immunoglobulin The DH kicked off the IVIg Demand management programme in 2006 to meet a number of historic challenges Database online MCP document Alternatives document Plan online Guidelines online

The National database will keep us informed on IVIg use The purpose of the National Database is to: • Support the data management and reporting requirements of the Demand Management Plan nationally agreed following extensive consultation with a wide range of stakeholders • Capture immunoglobulin data from trusts nationally • Inform a model of UK immunoglobulin use (along with PASA checking Pharmex) • Enable better forecasting of likely use once the data history and quality builds up • Estimate the requirements for alternatives to immunoglobulin such as plasma exchange • Inform research and enable clinical trials regarding efficacy of immunoglobulin therapy • Enable the formation of better contracts with immunoglobulin manufacturers • Enable batch tracking Data Collection Exercise Pilot Sites Helped Development • Oxford Radcliff (Jenny Dorey) • NLAG (Carrock Sewell) • GKT (Stuart Richardson) • UCLH (Evelyn Frank) • Southend (Kevan Wind) • Short term data collection • Enabled better understanding of what the database should capture and effort • Use Pilot sites to support the exercise • Data in live system • Available to trusts who entered it

Users Developers The IVIg database has a simple technical architecture that requires no end-user software and minimal training Database Overview DH and Trusts • DH commissioned National database for patients undergoing immunoglobulin therapy in the UK • Dendrite developed the solution and will host it: keeping it up and running • Anonymised data is owned by the DH • NHS MDSAS will manage the vendor and end user support • Database security - ID & password controlled entry managed by Trusts • Efforts to align with national CfH standards have been successful • Over the course of the next year, database will improve in terms of usage, data completeness and quality • Increased automation, including bar coding, for the database is being planned • Outputs (To be confirmed by MDSAS): • Monthly reports including compliance will be delivered • Ad hoc data analysis • Annual reports NHS MDSAS Team MS Internet Explorer only Portal/Web Technical Support Dendrite Propriety Solution Reporting & Analysis Data Management Dendrite Propriety Solution Data Validation Data Entry
