  1. QAR: Question Answer Relationship Today we are learning a new strategy. It will help us to identify types of questions and gives us clues on where to find the answers!

  2. There are basically two places where you can find answers to questions: In the Book In my Head

  3. In the Book Right There: For right there questions, you can usually put your finger on the aswer in one place in the text. Often, parts of the question can also be found in the text. Think and Search: To find the answer, you must put together details from various parts of the text. The answer is NOT found in just one place.

  4. In My Head Author and You: This type of question requires you to connect what you already know to details in the text. The answer is found in the book AND in your head. On My Own: The question relates to the text, but I could probably answer this one even if I had never read the text. All the ideas and information come from my own knowledge and experience.

  5. Let’s Practice QAR! • Together, we are going to read “Black Men and Public Space”. • After reading, we will identify the QAR type for each question, and then answer the questions. • We can abbreviate the QAR Types as RT, TS, AY, and OMO.
