Group Remit • Review the system for determining and apportioning contributions to the shared ministry for mission financial responsibilities in the diocese of Portsmouth. • Aims: • To review the historic effectiveness of the current system • To identify and consider relevant evidence • To produce findings and recommendations for future apportionment arrangements for the Bishop’s Council to consider, with initial findings to be delivered at a meeting in the first quarter of 2014, with a view to bringing agreed recommendations to the Diocesan Synod as soon as possible.

  4. Consultation Process • Met 5 times • Diocesan survey – wide and deep listening [167 responses: 112 individual, 55 parishes/deaneries] • Discussions with Diocesan Finance Committee • Archdeacons • Reported to Strategic meeting of Bishop’s Council on 10 May 2014

Report to Bishop’s Council 10 May • Identified key issues • Group work had re affirmed relevance of ability to pay as key factor and issues relating to this to be handled • Reported wide concern about sustainability and ‘size of cake’ cost to be shared and ability to influence this from parish level

  6. Bishop’s Council Next Actions Current group ends Transfer of work and initial findings to other work areas: 1. Short term task group on apportionment to report to Synod in November 2014 2. Longer track review through existing governance systems of future funding 3. Feed what has been heard into the strategic work of Bishop’s Council
