  6. Did you know???!!! • 2003 - Poor diet and physical inactivity now tied with tobacco related disease deaths and will soon overtake as the #1 cause of actual death • Again - we’re talking about deaths directly attributable to lifestyle and behavior • What does all that really mean to you?

  7. And the cost… • Chronic diseases - 75% of all medical care costs • Diabetes - $132 billion / year • Smoking - $75 billion / year • Cardiovascular - $300 billion / year (2000) • Physical inactivity - $76.6 billion /year (2000)

  13. Assignment 1 • Monitoring Behavior • If there is to be change, first must come awareness • This assignment is about developing some awareness about healthy and unhealthy behaviors

Assignment 1 • Complete Lifestyle Wellness Questionnaire • pp. 25 & 26 • Make photocopy – so you can sell back the text • Identify 5 behaviors that could use changing • Choose 1 as a priority behavior • Closely monitor that behavior for 4 days • In writing – journal, excel spreadsheet, whatever works……BUT IN WRITING • Write a summary of what you found out about that behavior
