  2. Ecosystems

  3. There are seven main ecosystems in the world. Each ecosystem has special plants and animals that live there.

  4. Mountains Mountains are very high and it gets very cold. Animals like cougars, llamas, yaks, snow leopards, panda and other things live in mountains.

  5. Tundra The Tundra is the coldest ecosystem. Most animals don’t live in the Tundra. Animals like the snowy owl, grizzly bear, ox, and some trees live here.

  6. Temperate forest Temperate forest is where it is nice and cool. The average temperature is 50 degrees a year it gets 30 to 60 in of rain a year. Lots of animals live in a temperate forest.

  7. Islands Islands are all around the ocean and the world too. Some are tropical and lush, while others are jagged dry. They also support thousands of interesting animals.

  8. Deserts Deserts are the driest climates in the world. Some temperatures get up to over 100 degrees. There isn’t much rain during the year. Only about 10 cm. Animals like jackrabbits, owls, rats, snakes, lizards, and tortoises live there. Animals that live in the desert mostly come out at night when it is cooler.

  9. Grasslands Grasslands are flat and stretch hundreds of miles. If an animal lives in a grassland, they can easily be seen by predators so they usually live in groups and run fast. Grasslands also get lots of rain and lots of animals live there.

  10. Savannahs Small plants live in savannahs. They get 20 to 60 inches of rain a year and are mostly located in Africa. They are dry, but most animals can live in savannahs since they have small ponds.
