  2. “War On Poverty” –Lyndon B.Johnson This vision was began by President Kennedy.

History 1965-OEO initiation of Project Head Start Johnson announces Head Start Program 1966 -Economic Opportunity Act amended the OEO to operate Project Head Start 1969- Head Start went from the Office of Economic to the Department of Health, Education and Welfare. 1972- Handicapped children added (10%) (Head Start History)

  4. What Is……. Economic Opportunity Act “To mobilize the human and financial resources of the Nation to combat poverty in the United States” (The Economic Opportunity Act August 1964). The Office of Head Start “Office that advises the Assistant Secretary for Children and Families on issues regarding the Head Start program (including Early Head Start)” (Fuentes, 2010).

  5. What is….. Head Start “Head Start is a national program that promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and families.” (Fuentes, 2010).
