Political and community buy-in: CC projects are long term, politicians and people think in short term Applied research with an important Cost-Benefit analysis phase. Focus not only on the science of Climate Change, but on the economics of climate change. Connecting climate to development. Recommendation: Get the private sector involved, as promoter of the programs 3. Failure to show the link between short and long term aspects Raise public awareness. Work on projects with high public awareness. Projects which will have positive results in the short/medium term, that will also have benefits in the long term. Projects can be phrased in the short term, in the view of extending into the long term Grupo 2. Projects are often conceived as dealing with CC, instead of making a comprehensive development and sustainability project which by force includes the CC dimension Mainstream climate, climate variability and CC in national processes and agendas. Identify legal, fiscal, regulatory frameworks and instruments which are all pre-requisites to ensure the unfolding of the project. Perform climate change assessment on the sustainability of the project, following similar guidelines as applied to Environmental Impact Assessment 5. Not enough information between CC and natural processes This is recognized as an important gap, that has to be filled in asap. They will probably be addressed with the IPCC assessment reports. Work with projects that deal with well described ecosystems 6. Communication to: the public, beneficiaries, decision makers. Differences in culture, tradition, decision of what solution might be.
